An image with a purple sky and clouds in the background. In the center of the image, the word "gesellschaft" is written in large, stylized Gothic script. Above it, there is an Arabic word in colorful tones, which appears to mean "Parallelgesellschaft". Below, in smaller, pixelated text, "Parallelgesellschaft" is written again in a more futuristic font. On the bottom right of the image, it says "est. 2017". The overall design conveys a blend of traditional and modern elements.

Künstler*innenkollektiv parallelgesellschaft: »parallelgesellschaft meets Philo Tsoungui«

Griot poetry, lyra recitation, jazz poetry: music and spoken word are ancient allies. At Pop-Kultur 2024, Philo Tsoungui (known as the drummer for Mine, Chefket and The Mars Volta) and the artists from parallelgesellschaft, the post-German literary collective based in Berlin-Neukölln, are following in this tradition. Unpredictable percussion and electronics meet literary speech, blending the poetic and the political. In their collaboration, they find each other as they improvise in those places where rhythm and metre get lost in the flow, where language resounds and music speaks, where expectations are on the back burner. A jam session road trip on uncharted territory. Without a conclusion. Without a destination. Without GPS.

Credits: Philo Tsoungui (electronics & drums); Miedya Mahmod (text performance), Ken Yamamoto (text performance), Jacinta Nandi (text performance), Thi Le Thanh Ho (text performance), Tanasgol Sabbagh (text performance), Lena Kocutar (visuals), Temye Tesfu (visuals).
