Susan Augustt & Dumama (Accra-Berlin Residency)

Susan Augustt, a singer and songwriter from Accra, masterfully blends neo Afro-soul and contemporary jazz with traditional Ghanaian music styles like highlife, agbadza, and kpanlogo. She is passionately committed to empowering emerging female artists from Ghana, engaging in performances and workshops at events such as Afrofest Toronto. Additionally, Augustt is active in social projects, including initiatives like »Periods of Change«.

South African future-folk artist, songwriter, and cultural researcher Gugulethu Duma experiments with traditional African sounds, which she interprets in a modern way, releasing them as Dumama. For the genesis of her cross-generational folk music, the Berlin-based musician uses self-made string instruments alongside her voice, the sound of which she warps and modulates. Duma aims to raise awareness on issues of inequality and displacement, relating the transformation processes of the African continent to the changes taking place on a global level.

As part of Musicboard’s Accra-Berlin Co-Creation Residency, the artists are collaborating to develop an exclusive show for Pop-Kultur 2024.
